Mostly Though, I Remember Their Gravity

Blurred People

Mostly though,
I remember their gravity –
so tall and imposing
as they strode around
with purpose and strength.

So insignificant
in their world –
saturated with
unseen wonder –
that when they did notice me
and ordered me away
it was as a man
speaking to an ant
with a magnifying glass
in his back pocket.

A few I liked –
a teacher and a parent –
until later I realised,
when the world was smaller,
that they had no time
for their own kind.
They just wanted
to steal the magic
for themselves.
